Operation Mincemeat (12)

Director John Madden. Drama/War

In the context of WW2 narratives, the story of Operation Mincemeat is unique a bizarre and seductive cinematic blend of high-level espionage and ingenious fiction, where the stakes could hardly be higher. Michelle Ashford's script fuses multiple strands and moods: tense, romantic, thrilling, unexpectedly funny, and endlessly surprising. It tells a richly human story of the soldiers we seldom see, who fight a different kind of war in shadows and deception, haunted by the knowledge that certainty and guarantee of success are nowhere to be found.

Starring Colin Firth, Matthew Macfadyen, Kelly Macdonald

Flicks Advisor (comments from our film promoters)

good film based on a true story with lots of dimensions - good choice for our Flicks audience.

I was unable to attend this film but the feedback from colleagues is that it was enjoyed by the audience. We run a cork voting scheme as the audience leave, allowing them to rate the film excellent, good, average or poor. This film rated 31 excellent, the rest good. The only slightly negative comment made by committee members was that the film was very long at 2 hours, we have an interval to increase proffit from refreshment sales, and so appreciate shorter films.

First half a bit slow but picked up in the second half and had a good ending. Not as good as the original.
