In 1962, "Tony Lip" Vallelonga, a tough bouncer, looking for work becomes the driver for African-American classical pianist Don Shirley on his concert tour into the Deep South states. They begin their trek armed with The Negro Motorist Green Book, a travel guide for safe travel through America's racial segregation. Together, the snobbishly erudite pianist and the crudely practical bouncer barely get along. The disparate pair witness and endure appalling injustices on the road and nurture a friendship and understanding that changes both their lives.

One of the best films we have ever shown!

A really good film , very much enjoyed by all of the quite big audience. I ran it with subtitles on, as some promoters had suggested, but I'm not convinced it's necessary - the accents were not that strong and with a good sound system and a blu-ray disc the dialogue was quite clear.

Well worth the Oscar! It was a bit slow to get into the film, but soon developed into a funny, thought provoking Film.

Slow start but brilliant, poignant, terrible hypocracy of white people in their treatment of an amazing black pianist. But what a great friendship came from the journey. They learned from each other and such nightmare living with racial intolerance.

An enjoyable film with an interesting insight into segregation.

Great film - funny, touching and with a serious theme behind it - musical content was very good.

Quirky but in the end delightful. The story of the unlikely tour of the Southern States by an Afro-American musician and his racist Italian-American driver in the early 1960's when Coloureds were still excluded in so many ways. Just sit back and look at how far things have changed (or maybe they haven't) in 60 years.

Very well-received by the audience, one of whom said that he thought it was one of the best films he has seen in Marton.

An Oscar winner, that deserved the Oscar.

Although this film handles a period of time and attitudes none of us can be proud of, it is so well drawn and develops the relationship between the two men with humour and humanity.
